i haven’t written in a while due to being busy with WAY TOO MUCH. and although it is a lot and stressful i am glad to have been able to take a breather here and there.

now… onto to the subject of this entry.

recently, KC and i were looking to finally upgrade as far as computers go. ours are pretty old being PowerBook G4s.
so, i looked on craigslist for some local sellers because i had been hearing from some friends of how they found a great deal lately.

i like to save money on purchases since and it’s been 5 years since i have bought a new computer.
found one for $700, which is $300 less than they are at Best Buy.
it seemed to be working fine and pretty new when we had a look at it, so, we decided to buy it.

yeah…

when i called the guy back that i bought it from to get the admin password for it, he said he didn’t have it.
he also explained that he and his friend bought it off a guy and decided that they didn’t like the operating system.

great. just greeeeeaaat.

i did some snooping around on the computer and finally looked at the email and contacted a phone number i found.
turns out, the computer is totally stolen. and super fresh. it had been reported for only a week.
apperently, some college kid and his friend got their computers stolen. so, this kid’s parents bought him another one.
it TOO gets stolen and a roommate ends up missing soon after. they suspect him to be the culprit and report to local police.
fast forward a week and here i am with the evidence.

a victim of fraud and theft once again. just in another despicable way.

i immediately reported it to the local police.
they ID the computer and i fill out a statement and hand over Exhibit A.

ugh… how painful. i mean… wow. i wanna throw up.

then, they contact the guy i bought it from to get more of a lead on this thief.
i get a phone call from the parents who bought the evidence saying that their detective is going to contact me.
i also tell that department all i know and so on and so forth.

what a mess!

finally, the parents of the kid whom this computer got stolen from call me and thank me that i turned it in and filled out a statement and all that.
pretty much, if it weren’t for my honesty and cooperation it may have taken way longer to find the computer and possibly they would never be able to find the thief had it gone on a lot longer.

and because of that they wanted to give me a reward of $350.
it wasn’t the full amount i lost, but at least i got SOMETHING back.
the last time i was a victim of fraud, i had to pay over $3600 for it.

lesson learned.

i hope someone else can benefit from my misfortune,
because i really hate it when innocent people become the victim.

i am so glad God has mercy for people like theives… because nowadays i wouldn’t have any to spare.

but the more i think of it, the more i feel sorry for the guy who stole that computer.
i mean, a person has to be pretty down and low to do something like that to someone.
i try to think of other people’s perspectives and i would never want to do something like that to someone.
that is a heavy burden to carry.
and even if someone isn’t in their right mind… to be at that point in life where he/she would have to steal…
well, i would never ever stoop that low. the potential for total ruin is too high.
i have people that love me too much to let me do something horrible like that.
i love others too much to even want to do that to anyone… even a complete stranger.

i am not saying i have never stolen. i have. i think many of us have in some way.
but after gaining all this perspective, i never even want to entertain the thought ever again.
