History: Election 2008
(CNN)– Sen. John Kerry released the following statement in response to Sen. Barack Obama’s victory:
“Tonight we elected a President who has inspired a majority of Americans with his vision and policies, a man who is principally a leader for these times who happens to also be African American; and because of America’s stunning ability to move on and transform, to write a new chapter of our history, Barack Obama will be President during the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights movement and the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
“Tonight there are tears of joy and disbelief in small rural communities and inner cities, where for too long, some weren’t sure anything was really possible for them.
“Tonight new dreams are born and old truths are affirmed. Tonight we enter a new America, the best America, the America of our highest hopes.”

i don’t know what will come in the future, but i am anxious, excited, nervous and hopeful.
i pray that our nation gets better.
i pray for our president to make choices that will be good for the people.
i pray that we look forward to change.

I think it’s great that America has elected its first black president.
I don’t think it’s great that Obama is so extremely Pro-Choice. And I don’t think it’s ok that there were so many Christians who turned their backs when he made statements like “If my daughters made a mistake I wouldn’t want them to be PUNISHED with a baby.”
The man has no idea the deep abomonation against God abortion is in our society. And I don’t think a lot of Christians understand it either.
God said it to Jeremiah best: Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
This scripture tells me that before we are born God has a purpose for us. We either accept that purpose or we turn away from it.
But as a nation and as a people we shouldn’t have to right to ABORT that purpose before it has a chance to come to pass.
I pray that this ministers to you Lorena. I love you, but the issue of pro-life vs pro-choice needs to be more of an issue than Christians are giving it.
What’s the point of having better health care, a better economy, fancier cars and bigger houses if we contine to allow women to abort the very futures we are trying to secure as a nation?
I’m totally stoked about this myself. Its amazing, and as sad as it sounds, I honestly didn’t think I would live to see it.
Anywho, completly off the subject, but I had a few questions to ask you about tattoos. I’m thinking of getting a piece done, but I’m a bit concerned about colors. Black people always run into this issue with tattoos. What colors will actually show up on me? You’ve seen me before (its been awhile I know) but I’m just lost as the only two tattoos I have are outlines in black. Please help Lola! I’ve seen your work and its awesome. Just need advice.
Thanks in advance! Feel free to email me if you’d like kishabertrand@yahoo.com
dena, i have known you a long while now and i just want to say that i love you as a friend, as well as a sister.
i agree that abortion is wrong. i am pro-life myself.
but i cannot ignore that people have the right to make choices. our own Heavenly Father recognizes that. and although i do not agree with abortion, i don’t believe that it’s up to me to tell someone what to do with their own body.
the issue of pro-life and pro-choice is a difficult subject. and although a baby is a life and killing is murder, this is something that i cannot decide for someone. just as much as i cannot tell someone not to smoke while they are pregnant and expect them to stop. i hurt for women who deal with the decision of abortion. i cannot imagine how horrible it must feel to live with that. i know a few people that do.
but to say that Obama, as well as a lot of christians, has/have no understanding of how much God abhors abortion is quite a statement. i think he understands quite well. i think he understands that morally and ethically it is very difficult decision to make. but i think he also understands that we are given free will and that we are given a choice. in everything. i think that it is something that people will have to deal with on judgment day… and deep down i think everyone knows that. to say that people don’t understand is to deny that people are born with a conscience. we, as humans, know what is wrong and do it anyway. this will be until the end of time. it is up to us to choose what is right, but we don’t always do this.
i don’t agree with abortion… but i agree with giving people the freedom and liberty to make a choice; our country was founded on the rights of the people to make a choice.
i get to choose what i believe and i like that.
and i personally believe that life is sacred.
Romans 13:1-2
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
1 Timothy 2:1-2
I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
i hope that these words don’t offend you. i am just stating how i feel about this issue.
i cannot wait to see what happens to our nation, be it good or bad. only time will tell. and only we can determine what will come. i can only hope and pray that we get better.
but that starts with me following the will that God has for me.
I see what you are saying. But, my values aren’t based on my “rights” as a US citizen. My values are based upon what God says is righteous and true.
When does the line get drawn? Partial birth? A few hours later? A day later? Whenever the women makes her “choice” and decides she’d just not rather deal with the punishment of a child?
I’m being harsh for a reason. There are nations that have and still practice the killing of babies who have been born for hours and days even. How long until America becomes that?
The Freedom of Choice Act that Obama is pushing to pass lifts the ban on partial birth abortion and parental consent for minors to have an abortion.
How long until our nation decides that its murder? Do you believe that life begins at conception?
If life begins at conception, then abortion is murder. Why in God’s name would you vote for a president that supports murder as an acceptable choice?!?!?
Would you have voted for him if he wanted to pass a law that supports the choice to kill people with disabilities like they did in Nazi Germany?
I’m guessing not. But the spirit behind the two are one in the same.
It just doesn’t make sense Lorena.
How is America giving me the right to chose to abort my child any different than America giving me the right to kill whomever I want to kill? Murder is murder. Right?
Or is that a gray area as well? Thou shalt not kill. It’s clear to me.
It is what it is if you truly believe that life begins at conception. And that God had a purpose and a plan for every child that America “chooses” to abort.
i am going to reply to this simply and clearly. and after this i really have nothing else to say.
i do not believe in abortion. i think it is wrong.
i believe in God, Jesus Christ, the Word, and the Holy Spirit.
i prayed for months and up until the ballot was in front of me. i voted for who i believed deserved to lead this country. on the issue of voting, whether you agree with me or not is really none of my concern.
i will continue to follow God. and i will respect our leaders. i know i will not always agree with their decisions, but i respect their authority which has been given to them by God.
Titus 3:1-7
REMIND PEOPLE to be submissive to [their] magistrates and authorities, to be obedient, to be prepared and willing to do any upright and honorable work, To slander or abuse or speak evil of no one, to avoid being contentious, to be forbearing (yielding, gentle, and conciliatory), and to show unqualified courtesy toward everybody. For we also were once thoughtless and senseless, obstinate and disobedient, deluded and misled; [we too were once] slaves to all sorts of cravings and pleasures, wasting our days in malice and jealousy and envy, hateful (hated, detestable) and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving-kindness of God our Savior to man [as man] appeared, He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but because of His own pity and mercy, by [the] cleansing [bath] of the new birth (regeneration) and renewing of the Holy Spirit, Which He poured out [so] richly upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. [And He did it in order] that we might be justified by His grace (by His favor, wholly undeserved), [that we might be acknowledged and counted as conformed to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action], and that we might become heirs of eternal life according to [our] hope.
Proverbs 20:3
It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
Ephesians 4:29-32
Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God’s own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin). Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind). And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.
i respect you and what you have to say.
and i love you very much.
and can’t wait for you to come visit.
welp… when it comes to black skin it really depends on the shade you are. i think you and i are pretty close in comparison and i have a lot of color on me. the intensity of the color is relative to how dark the skin is. you know? so it is really up to you and the artist. if you and the artist are comfortable with color and the fact that it is relative… then you can go from there. obviously lighter colors are harder to see.
if you would like to send me what you are thinking about, send it to lolovesyou@gmail.com.
i love tattoos. they’re so exciting!
