“So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.” -Romans 14:19 (NLT)

unity is the soul of fellowship.

“And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony.” -Colossians 3:14 (NLT)

but how are we supposed to keep in harmony?

focus on what we have in common.
conflict is a sign that the focus has shifted to less important issues.

“As for the man who is a weak believer, welcome him [into your fellowship], but not to criticize his opinions or pass judgment on his scruples or perplex him with discussions.” -Romans 14:1 (AMP)

“Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights.” -II Thessalonians 2:23 (NLT)

be realistic with your expectations.
other believers WILL disappoint you and the church is made up of real sinners, including ourselves.

choose to encourage, rather than criticize.
when i judge others: i lose fellowship with God; i expose my own pride; i set myself up to be judged by God; and i harm the fellowship of the church.

refuse to listen to gossip.

“An evildoer gives heed to wicked lips; and a liar listens to a mischievous tongue.” -Proverbs 17:4 (AMP)

practice God’s method for conflict resolution.

“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church…” -Matthew 18:15-17a (ESV)

support your pastor and leaders.

“And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love!” -I Thessalonians 5:12-13 (The Message)

we are put in a church family to learn unselfishness.
